Day 69 - Changes Coming

There's talk of getting Daniel fitted for garments soon. These are specially made for burn patients. Daniel will get a tight fitting shirt with zippers on the arms and front. The tightness allows the new skin to grow in correctly so that it eventually becomes smooth. The first garment will be made then tried on to see how it fits. Once the fit is right they will make a matching garment. Daniel would wear the garment for the next year or so.

Today while Daniel was up and walking around the burn unit he got a bit upset when he passed his old room. He seems to remember that his room used to be down the hall from where he is now and as he passed it he wanted to go in there (where another patient inhabits it). He did a few stomps when redirected to his new room #336. We will probably avoid going near his old room from now on. This all seems to suggest that he has most of his wits about him now and he is forming memories of what's happening. We had heard from former burn patients that they didn't really remember anything for the first two months. Daniel is beyond that point now at 69 days so it jives with what they are saying. I wish he could be spared from remembering all these days as it can't be much fun at this point. We need the Total Recall machine to do some reprogramming if that were possible. Maybe embed a nice trip to Mars instead of existing on the burn floor.

The pain docs stopped by to discuss doing a pain block for his elbow. As I described a few days ago this involves the insertion of a small catheter that stays in place and then the does can be administered anytime it's needed - like right before a stretching session with PT. They may it as early as  tomorrow and see how it works. They just need to check with Daniel's surgeons before going forward.

Apart from all this activity Daniel is wearing his face plate and gunslinger every day and seems to be tolerating it really well. It's difficult to get all the therapies in each day, but we keep trying and he's been so compliant through all of this. Daniel is the best. This much we know.
